When you think of rock stars, you think of Eddie Van Halen. Now touring across the country on Van Halen's much anticipated reunion tour, Eddie is bringing the cool factor back to the stage. Donning a GUNS Clothing black tee made from bamboo lined with a collar made out of Italian suede, Eddie Van Halen still looks every bit the part of the heart throb lead rock guitarist now as he did in the 80s singing Jump.
It's fitting that this 80's rock star is wearing GUNS Clothing as the brand's marketing is based upon 80's action movie heroes. Rishi Kumar, the owner of Guns Clothing, says that growing up, he was a big fan of 80's action heroes like Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis. The company's marketing is based upon action movies because Rishi wanted "to add a little humor" to his style.
Life of a Rock Star™ was thrilled to receive the trademark Guns Clothing metal box containing the most insanely soft t-shirt we have ever felt. It runs through your fingertips like silk and hugs your body like a perfectly tailored t-shirt should. The subtle but stylish trim on the collar and arms adds a high-end look to the tee that is both luxurious and yet still hip. This bamboo tee is the genius engineering of owner Rishi Kumar himself.
Originally from Westlake Village California, Rishi attended UCSD and then USC where he received a Master's degree in electrical engineering. He was working at Northrop Grunman as a satellite systems engineer when he decided to pursue his dreams. He had been collecting high end t-shirts from Gucci, Prada, YSL, and Dolce & Gabbana from a young age. There were different aspects of every brand that he liked. "I can make satellites," he thought to himself, "why don't I engineer the perfect t-shirt?" So, he started his own business in the world of fashion.
Rishi says, “Even though I was born here, still you have that culture from your parents and they bring that with them. And that culture is very safe. Americans go after their passions more. Indian people go after whaterver is safe financially and they don't like to take risks.”
"I was a big geek in high school...I was the math club president. In college, I wanted to be more social and I wanted to learn other things. I feel that people waste their life being only good at one thing. Their whole life is dedicated to one thing. It is really a waste if you have talent that you don't even know. I don't want to live being one dimensional."
"People talk about things but never take that first step. How many times do you have a conversation with someone when they say they want to design something, but they don't do it?" Rishi Kumar believes everyone should pursue their passions. "Even if [they] are taking small steps."

With this fabulous summer weather, many of us in Los Angeles want to get outside of the enclosed shopping areas to enjoy the open air malls. While there are many to choose from, (South Coast Plaza, Hollywood & Highland, and Santa Monica Place aka 3rd Street Promenade to name a few), don't rule out the fun of Venice Beach.
Aside from the gorgeous ocean as the backdrop, there is fun people watching, yummy snacks and a variety of merchandise within everyone's budget.
Handmade bracelets, painted ceramic skulls, seasonal dresses, kitschy tees and sweatshirts, more hats than one can dream up, luggage, trendy fabric purses and sunglasses in every shape and color can all be found along the Venice Beach ocean walk.
Stores range in pricing, (don't assume one store will be inexpensive because it is backed up to another that is practically giving things away). Venice Beach shopping offers an ecclectic mixture of some higher end clothing and accessories paired next to fun steals at baragain prices.

Kids today--including my own--live the life of little rock stars. Recession or economic downturn aside, today's kids have more style and glam than their predecessors from previous generations. From the schoolyard to the mall, kids--especially girls--are rocking some serious fashion.
Glam kids today have closets that are filled with popular hip clothes nothing short of runway ready. And this is true whether parents are shopping at Bloomingdales or Target. Everywhere I go, I see kids dressed like their rock star idols: Kristen Stewart, Demi Lovato, Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez, Justin Beiber, Zac Efron, Jesse McCartney and Taylor Lautner.
Children's clothing is constructed now to look adult-like and trendy along with their accessories. Rock star style sunglasses, necklaces, bracelets, bags and shoes--all very Hollywood--are available in tween or teen stores such as Justice, Forever 21, Urban Outfitters, Claires, H&M, as well as department stores ranging from Nordstrom to Kohl's. They are designed identically to high-end offerings on Fifth Avenue in New York City. The knockoff syndrome has gone size blind. One style fits all.
When I was a child it was fun for me to play dress up in my mom's closet and as a teen I wanted to borrow her cutest clothes. The young girls in my family do love to peruse my wardrobe and stake claims to my castoffs, but in a strange roll reversal I recently found myself borrowing a very adult cute and stylish Joe's Jeans jacket out of my child's closet. Sometimes we walk out the door looking the same and not in that freakish homemade dress floral print kind of way either. Do the kids look like me or do I look like them? Has the world gone mad? Living through hard times and wearing clothes donated to charities left on the front door step of her home, Shawna rifled through the bags for things that would fit her and pulled out a dress that she slipped into for church one Sunday morning. While at church, a girl recognized the dress Shawna was wearing as one that she had donated to the “needy.” The girl—too young herself to realize that Shawna’s family was in that category--called Shawna out on it and embarrassed her. Tucked away in the Berkshires in Lenox, Massachusetts is an adorable store that everyone with a little prince or princess should explore. This children’s clothing boutique that opened about a year and a half ago, is a word of mouth gem.
