Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe” was Life of a Rock Star’s 2012 Song of the Summer. Her much anticipated album was released yesterday and comes stock full of new hits, including the epic “Call Me Maybe.” Listening to the entire album gives you an idea of what Carly Rae Jepsen’s voice is capable of handling. She brings a few different sounds to this album.
While it is primarily a dance / pop album, “Kiss” contains a song called “Almost Said It” that stands apart from the rest with an almost Miley Cyrus pop / country feel. Carly Rae Jepsen sings the lyrics beautifully with an almost a cappella sound. “If this is love, I should be dying, but I’m going downtown like I still care, like I’m still trying. Said I was over you, but I’m lyin’ there, I almost said it.” “Almost Said It” is our hands down favorite song on the album because it allows her true vocal talent to shine through. Life of a Rock Star™ finds it apropos that the song starts off lyrically with, “I always want more…” because that’s how we feel about Carly Rae Jepsen’s music.
See what we mean by checking out the “home made” music video Carly Rae Jepsen uploaded to YouTube of herself singing “Almost Said It” --dubbed “We Almost Said It” only accompanied by herself on guitar sitting on a stairwell. It’s a stunning representation of her raw talent:
Sure to be hits on “Kiss” include:
“This Kiss” is a fun catchy pop dance song based upon which the album is named. It is a toe tapper for certain!
“Beautiful,” the Carly Rae Jepsen & Justin Bieber duet will have every girl swooning when they hear, “What makes you so beautiful is you don’t know how beautiful you are, to me. You’re not trying to be perfect--nobody’s perfect--but you are, to me.”
“Good Time” by Carly Rae Jepsen & Owl City we love just because we can see that the two of them couldn’t be having a better time singing together, plus we love the music video. “Good Time” is an automatic sing along. (P.S. What is “up with the Prince song inside my head?” How does “Purple Rain” sneak in from nowhere?) Also, we love the story that Owl City tells about having really wanted to work with Carly Rae Jepsen, thinking it would never happen, then finding out his manager was friends with her manager. Voila! It’s all about connections!
