Life of a Rock Star™ at The Viper Room
Review by Nicole Hanratty
Sunset Strip Music Festival #SSMF was in full force last night in on Sunset. Marilyn Manson was at the Virgin America party at Mondrian LA. There was a line wrapped around the block outside the House of Blues and every other club on Sunset for that matter.
But hands down, Viper Room is still the place to see a show. No matter where you are standing in the room, you feel like you are up close and personal with the band.
Excited fans packed the place and the Viper Room floor was shaking last night. The standing crowd was on their feet jumping to songs from the 60s and 70s, shaking their fists in the air as Robby Krieger (The Doors), Rich Robinson (The Black Crowes) and drummer Joe Magistro (Rich Robinson Band) played a collection of songs from The Doors mixed with music from Robinson’s Molitz’s and Magistro’s new CD “Through a Crooked Sun.”

Upstairs where the stage is in The Viper Room, the room was packed wall to wall with eager fans. The Hollywood scene was in full force and no fashion or style went unrepresented. From spiked hair to the preppy look, including hipsters and hippies--it didn’t matter what you were wearing just as long as you sang along. It’s no small feat to pull in such a diversely dressed and age variant crowd, but Robby Krieger and Rich Robinson as headliners pulled it off with ease.

Robbie Krieger told the crowd that the first scene in The Doors movie was filmed in The Viper Room, then sang “People Are Strange” to a cheering crowd who loved being reminded of the venue’s history.
Rich Robinson’s voice sounded amazing as he belted out one song after another.
Favorites in the set last night was an early Fleetwood Mac song, “Station Man,” more songs from The Doors including “Riders On The Storm,” “Roadhouse Blues,” and closing out the night with the infamous “LA Woman.”
The concert was a rare treat for all in attendance.
