POP STAR KATY CAPPELLA JOINS SUSAN G. KOMEN’S “RACE FOR THE CURE”
Phoenix, AZ – October 14, 2012 – Pop Star sensation Katy Cappella joined The Susan G. Komen “Race For The Cure” in Phoenix, Arizona this morning. Saying after the race, “It is perfect weather for a run!”
Raised in Claremore, Oklahoma, this small town girl whose music is inspired by her desire to help others stresses the importance of being involved in Race For The Cure. Katy Cappella tells KomenPhoenix.org in her “Why I Walk” statement, "I walk to raise awareness and stress the importance of getting mammograms and doing self breast examinations."
Pop Star Katy Cappella joined the Komen Race For the Cure several years ago with her girlfriends. Says Katy, "It was not only something fun that we could do together, it also benefited a great cause. It was always an emotional run seeing the participants who ran as survivors or on behalf of those afflicted by the disease. But in 2009, my best friend's mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. Fortunately, she did catch it very early during a routine mammogram, but she still had to undergo surgery, which included a lumpectomy and partial mastectomy. As a result of the early detection, her doctors were successful in removing all of the cancer and she avoided having to undergo chemotherapy. This early detection was a huge blessing to her, my best friend and their entire family. If people understand the importance of early detection and act on that knowledge, we can lessen both the financial and emotional burden breast cancer has on our community until that burden is eliminated with a cure!"

Katy Cappella has been featured on FOX news and her voice has been compared to both Mariah Carey and Christina Aguilera.
