Billy Joe Armstrong Greenday performance at iHeart Radio music festival Las Vegas 2012
Green Day blew up the stage at iHeart Radio music festival where the band’s energy and music brought the audience alive. They played one massive hit after another and killed it. And while it ended with a relatively minor arguably punk-band appropriate melt down, one broken guitar and a Billy Joe Armstrong rehab check-in, (where we wish him a super speedy recovery so he can come out on tour), the Green Day live performance at the iHeart Radio concert was a highlight of the evening.

Life of a Rock Star™ has been listening to the Green Day “¡Uno!” Album like mad and are loving the classic Green Day sounds combined with new music melodies and always humorous sometimes painfully telling lyrics. “Angel Blue” “Carpe Diem” “Nuclear Family” “Let Yourself Go” and “Kill the DJ” are album highlights. And yes, the lyrics are explicit mom. [See Green Day vs Angry Mom]

JRT loves to listen to Green Day in the car
Green Day’s “Oh Love” makes Song of the Week because of its sheer brilliance of creating an alternative rock music meets punk music hinting at a ballad song that makes us fall in love with Green Day all over again. And by we, we include editor Nicole Hanratty’s Jack Russell Terrier. True Story: As a puppy this dog was car sick ALL the time, cried and drooled at the mouth from being nauseated in the car on even the shortest of rides. The very smart amazing dog trainer suggested playing different kinds of music for her to calm her down attributing the car sickness to anxiety. From classical to pop, one genre after another was attempted to no avail. Then one day Green Day came on the radio and the sweet JRT quieted down almost instantaneously. The effect was miraculous and repeated on multiple occasions. Yes, the brilliant JRT is a Green Day devotee and of course has been loving the new “¡Uno!” album that’s playing on repeat just for her Winking giving it two paws up.

“Oh Love” is lyrically genius and the sing-a-long song of the fall. They had us at “wearing my heart on a noose.”

Lyrics via
azlyrics.com:

Oh Love, oh love
Won't you rain on me tonight?
Oh life, oh life
Please don't pass me by
Don't stop, don't stop
Don't stop when the red lights flash
Oh ride, free ride
Won't you take me close to you

Far away, far away
Waste away tonight
I'm wearing my heart on a noose

Far away, far away
Waste away tonight
Tonight my heart's on the loose

Oh lights and action
I just can't be satisfied
Oh losers and choosers
Won't you please hold on my life
Oh hours and hours
Like the dog years of the day
Old story, same old story
Won't you see the light of day

Far away, far away
Waste away tonight
I'm wearing my heart on a noose

Far away, far away
Waste away tonight
Tonight my heart's on the loose

Talk myself out of feeling
Talk my way out of control
Talk myself out of falling in love
Falling in love with you

Oh love, oh Love
Won't you rain on me tonight
Oh ride, free ride
Won't you take me close to you

Far away, far away
Waste away tonight
I'm wearing my heart on a noose

Far away, far away
Waste away tonight
Tonight my heart's on the loose

Far away, far away
Waste away tonight
I'm wearing my heart on a noose

Far away, far away
Waste away tonight
Tonight my heart's on the loose

Tonight my heart's on the loose...
Tonight my heart's on the loose...
