If you haven’t heard HOLYCHILD yet, you will. The duo that is Liz Nistico and Louie Diller are a creative force with International Affairs degrees that have learned to work a budget, direct a video, rock a photo shoot and compile a dream team to promote their smart electro pop. Holychild is an official SXSW band and will be playing Firefly this June.
On their own HOLYCHILD released and promoted “Happy With Me” and pushed the song to garner over 200,000 listens on SoundCloud raising eyebrows and hitting the front page of Nylon.com. Tonight they return to the Bootleg to kickoff the tour of their new EP “Mindspeak” available on iTunes now. The venue is guaranteed to be bursting at the seams with the loyal LA following they’ve amassed and is where I first met the endearing duo last July after they opened up for The Postelles to the dozen or so of us who showed up early. HOLYCHILD hooked me then with their song “Best Friends” and I’ve been a fan ever since.
Last month we sat down to catch up on the new music they have since released, the depression Liz suffered as a result of moving to Los Angeles from the East Coast dealing with the pressure to be a “Playboy Girl” that has inspired new songs, and the dream team HOLYCHILD assembled at CMJ in New York.
Watch below as Liz and Louie join me on set for an artistic photo shoot HOLYCHILD style and chat about signing to Glassnote Records, hiring William Morris as their booking agency, and a chance meeting with Grouplove’s manager Nicky Berger that led to them becoming the second band on Nicky Berger’s roster.
