Mountain Dew Apple Dumplings recipe by Diane Bittiker
2 Granny Smith apples (enough for 16 wedges)
2 cans – 8 piece crescent rolls
2 sticks butter – YES- 2 sticks!!!
1 & ½ cups sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1 can of Mountain Dew soda
Preheat oven to 350º
Peel and core the apples. Slice into 16 wedges. Roll one apple slice in each crescent roll. Place all 16 pieces in a buttered 9 X 13 baking dish. Melt the butter, then add the sugar and stir till just mixed. Take off the heat and add the vanilla. Mix well and pour over the apples. Pour the Mountain Dew around the edges and in between the apples. Sprinkle with the cinnamon and bake for 40 minutes. Allow to cool for 15 minutes.
This dessert just screams for ice cream! If you are going to use this much butter and sugar what is a few more calories from ice cream! And don’t forget to include some of that delicious sauce also. It is best served warm.
